Everything Must Change

New Testament Passage: Matthew 5: 21 - 48.

htmlimport_mp3.jpgword.jpgIs there perhaps a message within the message from the repetition and formulaic use of “You have heard…” “But I say…”?

It’s easy to get lost in the myriad of “details” in these verses. We struggled last Sunday with trying to wrap our heads around the possibility that repeating the same literary formula five different times in these verses could perhaps tell us something as well.

Jan. 20th - Blame it on the Zoom!

Filed under: Uncategorized — RPS @ 6:00 pm

zoom-h2-angle.jpgword.jpgOur sermon last Sunday night from 1st Samuel 25 - The Story of David and Abigal somehow got recorded over with about 10 minutes of conversation after worship! So obviously, we don’t have a podcast of a great sermon that centered on this theme:

Sometimes we all need an Abigail in our lives, kneeling in front of us and beseeching us: “Don’t do what you are thinking! You don’t have to sink to the level of others and repay them in kind! That’s not God’s call on our lives!”

It was a powerful idea to think through. Sorry we don’t have the conversation to share with you. The liturgy points to the idea Eugene Peterson shared in his book “Leap Over a Wall” about seeing Abigail as an icon.
